  1. Check your tyres – As similar to driving in the cold weather, summer driving can also adversely affect the tyres Wolverhampton. Heat expands the air inside the tyres which can lead to a tyre blowout. This can increase the chances of road accidents. Hence, it is recommended to check your car tyres routinely, especially during the hot weather. Maintaining the condition and pressure of the tyres is of utmost importance to have a comfortable driving experience in such environmental conditions. Refer to the owner’s specification manual and increase the air pressure to carry the extra loads, if required.
  2. Keep the vehicle cool – Always start with a cool car by using sunshades on hotter days or by parking your car in shade. Keep your windows and doors open for some time to circulate warm air, or run the air conditioner to keep your car cool and avoid the discomfort caused by heat. The engine of the car tends to get extremely hot in the heat, especially if you are stuck in traffic, so your coolant must be topped up at all times.
  3. Equipment maintenance- Extreme heat can result in tyre blowouts and can severely affect the braking competence of the car. This can put lots of stress on almost every mechanical function of the car. So, pay extra attention to the tread and braking system of your vehicle. Frequently keep on checking the brakes and ensure that the cooling system is functioning in its best condition.
  4. Avoid sun glare/vision – Impaired vision due to sun rays is the most common cause of accidents during the summer season. To avoid this, make sure to replace the damaged windscreen wipers and try to always keep the windscreen clean. If required, use overhead sun visors, or sunglasses to keep the sun away from your eyes. Windscreens usually get dirty in hot weather and this can affect your vision. Plenty of washer fluid for the windscreen can help you maintain clear vision while driving in dry weather.
  5. Be aware of distracted drivers – During summer, the roads are filled with distracted drivers, be it families on a vacation or a group of friends heading towards the beach, so you must be extra careful while driving in the hot weather. If you notice them, be slightly away from them to avoid any collision.
  6. Keep a check on weather forecasts – Different parts of the country experience different patterns of summer, there could be downpours, thunderstorms, etc. which can lead to tornadoes, flash flooding, and a lot more. This can happen randomly without any warnings, so make sure to check the weather forecast every day of the area you are driving in. And, be prepared accordingly.
  7. Avoid driving when tired – If you are feeling tired, try to take a short nap or have a cup of strong coffee to ensure that you are completely focused while you are driving. Moreover, it’s better to avoid getting tired in the first place. You can plan your trip in a way that there are 20 min breaks every three hours so that there are no chances of getting tired.
  8. Respect the heat effects – It’s essential to understand how harmful the effects of heat can be for the vehicle as well as the driver. Heat exhaustion can overheat the car, leaving it stranded on the road, and can make the driver feel drowsy. So, make sure to not push the vehicle more than its limit, because it can be unsafe for all the drivers on the road. And, combat your fatigue by taking naps and short breaks. Pay attention to the warning signs of the vehicle to prevent any malfunction or breakdown.
