FSSAI License Registration for Export of Food

India exports a large number of products outside of the country and is well-known in the global market for the products it sends to foreign markets and countries. It is well-known for exporting food items produced in the country and is a specialty of a specific region in India. Many food items are exported from the country, and all of them must be registered and licensed with the FSSAI and the health ministry before they can be shipped out.

In order to keep track of all exports, they must obtain an FSSAI License for each type of food item exported to the country. The FSSAI ensures that companies obtain licenses and grants licenses only to products that are good for health, of high quality, and would not harm the health of people outside the country, thereby bringing the country to shame. The standards are in place to protect the best interests of the people while also maintaining health decorum outside of the country.

 FSSAI License for Export in order to export food outside

To export food outside the country, you must first obtain an FSSAI License for Export and then obtain approval for your food product from both the health ministry and FSSAI. This would demonstrate that the item is not harmful and that people can consume it without harming their health. 

An exporter must do the following to obtain the license:

It is very simple to apply for an FSSAI License for Export on the FSSAI website. You must register your company, obtain an import-export license, obtain a no-objection certificate, obtain food item approval, handle product shipping, and then export the product into the country. Every food item that you intend to export must be registered, and the approval and license should take a long time to arrive, so advance planning is required. Under the FSSAI’s laws, you must also have the required turnover in order to export your products outside of the country.

Certificate of No Objection:

You must obtain a NOC before exporting food items, and this is a critical step because it will allow you to obtain a license from the FSSAI to export your items. Further formalities for food export will be impossible to complete without a NOC. 

To apply for a NOC, you will need the following documents:

  • The DGFT FSSAI Food Business License Bill of Entry includes a Country of Origin Certificate, an Importer Exporter Code (IEC), and a Country of Origin Certificate.
  • The end-use declaration, which states that the food is not genetically modified.
  • Aside from that, other documents may be required depending on the individual import items.
  • The sample should be free of visible insects and fungal infestations.
  • At the time of clearance, the food item should have a healthy remaining shelf life.
  • Compliance with the 2011 FSS (Packaging & Labeling) Regulations and product-specific labeling requirements.

Obtaining a license to export food items outside of India necessitates the submission of numerous other documents, including the following:

  • FSSAI License
  • IE Code License
  • Ministry of Animal Husbandry permit
  • Product Approval Certificate
  • Narcotics Certificate

Obtaining the Import-Export code is critical for export because it is required during the export process as well as when obtaining the certificate and FSSAI License for Export. You can apply for the IEC code registration online by filling out the form on their website. The code is assigned by the DGFT and remains constant throughout the export process.

Food Labeling Requirements for Exports:

When exporting food to foreign markets, you must ensure that enough information and contents are listed on the packaging of each food item for them to be acceptable in the foreign markets. The labels and content requirements for food export are as follows:

  • Information and facts about nutrition.
  • The brand’s, company’s, or product’s name, for example.
  • The product description and the names of the ingredients.
  • The volume and net weight of the contents.
  • The labeling language should be in accordance with the FSSAI (Packaging & Labeling) Regulations, 2011, as well as the product-specific labeling requirements.
  • The declaration of the “Best Before” date.
  • The net weight.
  • Symbolic declaration of vegetarianism and non-vegetarianism.
  • The name and address of the Indian exporter.
  • Batch number, code number, lot number, and a variety of other identifiers
